11 Alive reported recently on a tragic motor vehicle accident in Gwinnett County that led to at least one death and the shutdown of all northbound lanes of Interstate 85, one of metro Atlanta’s busiest traffic arteries, on the evening of Sunday, February 7.
According to officials from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the incident took place on the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2021 along Interstate 85 just north of the Pleasant Hill Road / Gwinnett Place Mall exit (Exit 104.) All northbound traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 105. Police officials stated that three vehicles were involved in the accident, with at least one fatality. At least one person was taken to Northside Hospital Gwinnett for the treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, while two others refused medical treatment.
The Georgia Department of Transportation stated the accident would be cleared on or around 10:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Police officials stated they would release additional details on Monday following their investigation.
