CBS Atlanta Local News reported recently that a fatal traffic collision occurred in the Mableton area in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 26 when an SUV struck a pedestrian on a busy local thruway.
According to officials from the Cobb County Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Mableton Parkway near the intersection with Queensferry Drive in the Cobb County community of Mableton. A grey 2003 Lincoln Aviator SUV, driven by a Mableton man 59 years of age, was in the leftmost southbound travel lane of Mableton Parkway as a pedestrian attempted to cross the road in a westerly direction in an area that wasn’t a marked crosswalk.
The Lincoln collided with the pedestrian, a Mableton man 31 years of age. The victim was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital, where he was declared dead of injuries sustained in the collision. The investigation is in progress and the driver that hit the victim remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
