The last thing you expect after hearing the cheery “Welcome to Moe’s!” and ordering your burrito, getting your salsa, and sitting down is for a car to come plowing into the restaurant. Yet, according to a news report, a nine-vehicle accident culminated with one vehicle plowing into the restaurant. 11 Alive News reported on the situation.
The accident happened Monday afternoon at about 1 p.m. in the Morrison Moore Parkway area of Lumpkin County. One of the vehicles, a large van, ultimately ended up going through the wall at a nearby Moe’s Restaurant. So far, authorities believe that the van that slammed into the restaurant was also the one responsible for causing the chain-reaction accident that was first thought to only involve seven vehicles. That count was later upgraded to nine.
Moore Parkway was shut down between South Chestatee Street and Alicia Lane, but later reopened.
Several people were injured in the crash, some of them seriously. Two people inside the restaurant suffered minor injuries. One city worker was injured trying to escape the crash by driving out of the way of the accident.
Two people involved were taken to Chestatee Hospital and three others were sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
