WGXA News reported recently that a pair of major motor vehicle accidents in Monroe County shut down several lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 181 and mile marker 187 on Thursday, February 11, 2021, with the accidents blamed at least partially on the inclement weather conditions prevalent at the time.
According to officials from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Transportation, the first accident occurred on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in Monroe County, involving one vehicle, at mile marker 181 near Bunn Road. The second accident involved two commercial tractor-trailers and occurred at mile marker 187, near the Juliette Road exit.
The accidents closed multiple lanes of the roadway and authorities asked motorists to choose alternate routes. The accidents were blamed on severe weather in the area at the time creating hazardous driving conditions.
