A Dalton family is grieving following an accident in Bartow County that claimed the lives of 3 people, two of them children.
A late night accident on September 16 has a man facing multiple charges. Three people, including two children, lost their lives in the accident.
The accident occurred at about 11:35 p.m. on Georgia Route 20 near Cowan Drive.
According to emergency responders, a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with the back of a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Georgia State Patrol stated that Scottie Worfford of Rockmart said that the Jeep began to slow down. Worfford said that he was unable to slow his vehicle in time to avoid the collision.
The accident killed Deneisha Washington, 25; as well as Octavian Bynum, 11-months; and Iyania Bynum, 2. All three were from Dalton, Georgia. Also seriously injured in the accident was 8-year-old Shamya Washington. She was air-lifted to Children’s Hospital at Egleston.
Worfford also suffered injuries in the accident. He was taken to Cartersville Medical Center. He is facing three counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence, and following too closely.
