Accidents happen. However, when the accident involves a larger vehicle crashing into a smaller vehicle, the results can be tragic. When the smaller vehicle is a motorcycle and the larger one is a bus, the results can end in lives lost.
A fatal accident between a MARTA bus and a motorcyclist took place in the early morning hours of June 2nd.
The 42-year old motorcyclist was killed after crashing his motorcycle into a MARTA bus in East Point at about 5:20 a.m. The motorcyclist reportedly crossed over the center line of the roadway on Washington Road near Janice Drive. He hit the MARTA bus head on.
A passenger on the bus said that the driver of the bus did not have time to try and evade the motorcycle.
The passenger, Eddie Harris, exited the bus to check on the motorcyclist, who had been pinned under the bus. He asked the man if he was okay and got no response.
The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for mandatory testing. There were four passengers on board the bus at the time, but no injuries were reported.
The name of the motorcyclist was not released.
The investigation shut down parts of Washington Road for a few hours.
