The Walton Tribune reported that a high school student and varsity football player at Monroe Area High School is currently battling for his life after sustaining serious injuries in a wreck Sunday in Monroe.
The 17-year-old Monroe teen was driving his 2005 Nissan Altima down Snows Mill Road near Stanley Christian Road when he evidently lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a left curve, according to state troopers from the Georgia State Police. The car veered off the north shoulder of the roadway and suffered a collision with a tree against the driver’s side door.
Walton County Fire Rescue units responded around 1:15 p.m. Sunday when the wreck was reported and had to use the extraction tool known as the Jaws Of Life to remove the lad from the vehicle. He was taken to an emergency landing zone at the corner of Jim Daws Road and US Highway 78, where a medevac helicopter picked him up and took him to Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.
