The most immediate things to come to mind about consequences for a DUI are probably jail time, license suspension, probation, fines, and legal costs. Few people think about the long-term costs of a DUI. One of these major long-term costs is the cost of insurance. Georgia already has some of the highest insurance premiums in the country, and a DUI could cause your insurance company to raise your rate 100% or more. This higher rate can be in effect for five years or longer, after which you’ve paid over $10,000 extra in higher insurance premiums.
Fox 24 reports on a multi-vehicle accident that left several people injured and a driver facing felony charges.
The accident occurred early Wednesday morning in Eatonton.
Just after 8 a.m., a Honda CRV traveling south on U.S. 441 failed to maintain its lane. It crossed into the northbound lane, sideswiping a Jeep Liberty. This caused the Jeep to rotate into the lane of oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Chevy Impala.
The driver of the Honda kept going in the southbound lanes where it collided with another vehicle, a Toyota Highlander. The Toyota left the road and overturned on the shoulder.
The two people in the Jeep were children of the people in the Highlander. All were taken to local hospitals to treat their injuries. A woman riding in the Chevrolet was unrestrained and was critically injured.
The driver of the Honda, Brandon Rashad Boss, was found to be at fault in the accident. A Georgia State Trooper determined that Boss was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
