11 Alive reported recently that a major motor vehicle accident took place along the downtown connector in Midtown that blocked all southbound lanes and caused major congestion along the busy thoroughfare.
According to officials from the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia State Patrol, and Atlanta Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday, January 25, 2021, along the segment of Interstate 75 and Interstate 85 known locally as the Downtown Connector, just south of the I-75/ I-85 fork near the 17th Street Exit. At least five vehicles were involved in the wreck, which shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate due to the large amount of debris involved in the incident.
Two people were injured in the incident. Units from the Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta Police Department, and Atlanta Fire Department responded, as well as H.E.R.O. roadside assistance trucks from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
