11Alive reported Sunday on a severe accident at the busy intersection of Cobb Parkway North and North Marietta Parkway in Cobb County on the northwest side of metro Atlanta.
The Marietta Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 7:20 pm on Sunday, August 16 in the middle of the major intersection. A 28-year-old man driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner was westbound on North Marietta Parkway approaching the intersection, while a 56-year-old woman in a 2016 Toyota Camry was northbound on Cobb Parkway N, also on approach. Preliminary investigations indicated that the 4Runner failed to stop at the red light, causing a collision between the two vehicles.
The 4Runner’s driver was unrestrained and was ejected from his vehicle by the force of the collision, which also overturned the 4Runner. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were medically transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital nearby.
The crash remains under investigation, and while no charges have been filed, they are anticipated. The crash is being investigated by the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program and witnesses are asked to contact Investigator St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
