Cobb County, Marietta Georgia police officials have reported an illegal nursing home with extremely unacceptable living conditions, in an otherwise quiet residential neighborhood earlier last week. It was uncovered when a state inspector came to the facility to perform a standard assessment of the establishment but was turned away by an employee. The following day when the police showed up with a search warrant the house had been vacated not only by the staff but the elderly patients were gone as well. Upon searching the two story residential home police found spoiled food in a refrigerator and one of the bathrooms was missing a door. Temporary walls had been erected with plywood to living space in the home as well.
The manager of the facility has since turned herself in and been released from Cobb County custody on bail, she is said to speak with the press today. The police have located three of the four patients and returned them to their families, they have reached out to citizens to provide any assistance possible in their search.
The number of these kinds of facilities in Cobb County has spiked in recent years. The Cobb Neighborhood Safety Commissioner blames these numbers on the economies current state and the growth of elderly patients in need of care.
