Recent icy and snowy conditions have wreaked havoc on drivers in Georgia. Several accidents have occurred that were attributed to the ice, including an accident that involved an Atlanta Police Officer. More recently, During the weather event that took place last week, a car lost control and struck a vehicle and a power pole before crashing into a house. WSB TV reports on the incident, which took place while the residents were at home.
A home in DeKalb County was the site of an accident that had a vehicle crashing into the garage after losing control on a patch of ice.
Because it was a snow day, the residents of the house were at home. They told media reporters that they heard a loud crash and thought that maybe a tree had fallen onto the home.
No one at home was injured, a fact that the Madgett family credits to their cars being parked in the garage. Had their cars not been there, the vehicle would have plowed into the kitchen which is where the family was gathered.
Authorities said that the chain of events leading to the crash began at the top of the hill on Gateway Boulevard. The driver slid on some ice and crashed into another vehicle. He then hit a Georgia Power transformer, parked cars, a water main, and a light pole yet continued to slide down the hill.
The SUV finally stopped when it hit the parked cars inside the garage.
