The interstate is a dangerous place. In fact, Interstate 285 in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, was recently named as one of the most dangerous interstates in the nation. It is advised that people take care when exiting their vehicles on the interstate after a mechanical issue or an accident.
Two accidents shut down Interstate-75 early in the morning last Wednesday. The first accident occurred when a female exited her vehicle after it had stalled. The stall occurred in the southbound lanes of I-75 not far from the I-285 split. This is in Clayton County near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
When the female stepped out of her car, she was struck by another vehicle. The driver of this vehicle then exited her own vehicle to render aid. Unfortunately, the second woman was struck by a SUV, which also struck her vehicle.
A fourth vehicle, towing a boat, swerved to miss the accident. This action caused the boat to overturn.
The two women were taken to local hospitals with critical injuries. Their names have not been released. It is also unknown if any other drivers or passengers involved suffered any injuries.
The initial accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Traffic had to be diverted off of I-75 at Central Avenue for six hours. The interstate was reopened at about 10:30 a.m.
