11 Alive reported that a man suspected of a hit-and-run accident in Atlanta died along with a driver who was an innocent bystander after his attempt to speed off from a wreck led to a second wreck Friday.
Representatives for the city of Atlanta Police Department stated that officers were called to the area of the Campbellton Road / El Paso Road intersection around 11:15 p.m. Friday after reports of an accident with injuries. The scene was even uglier than expected, however, when officers arrived. Both vehicles had sustained catastrophic damage. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and had to be extricated from their vehicles with power machinery.
The hit-and-run-suspect, a man of 42 years of age, had sped away from a minor accident at the intersection of Campbellton Road and County Line roads. He fled west on Campbellton in a Dodge pickup truck before striking a Chevrolet pickup driven by a man of 74 years of age, killing both in the head-on collision.
