Early Wednesday morning, Emily Carmeron was the victim in a hit-and-run that unfortunately caused her to lose her life. The incident occurred on Arizona Avenue in northwest Atlanta at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Later Wednesday evening, Tracy Mitchell, 45, turned herself in to the Atlanta Police Department. She is being charged with multiple counts: homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and two counts of hit-and-run and was taken to Dekalb County Jail. Mitchell also struck another parked SUV. The SUV was parked along the same road where the accident occurred.
Police stated that the victim had apparently fallen out of the passenger side of the vehicle while Mitchell was executing a turn. She was then struck by the vehicle and the driver fled the scene. Police spokesperson Kim Jones gave this statement: “Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was exiting the vehicle when the driver accelerated in reverse, striking the vehicle. The driver then fled the scene.”
Whether or not alcohol was involved has not been reported. It is also being investigated as to whether or not this accident was accidental or intentional.
