Police chases are dangerous for everyone involved, the fleeing criminal, the police, and the general public. A recent chase down I-20 got several innocent bystanders killed or injured due to the actions of the criminal. Here is what we know from the news.
Georgia State Patrol spied a suspicious vehicle in the Capitol Hill area and tried to do a traffic stop. The driver of the pickup stopped but then sped away down I-20. Police gave chase. The pickup got off near Memorial Drive and attempted to cut through a gas station.
After coming out of the gas station, he crossed the center line and hit a vehicle head-on. Then he hit a second vehicle which caused the pickup to roll over onto the driver side and burst into flames. The chased criminal died at the scene.
The driver of the first vehicle that was hit also died at the scene and a child in the back was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No one was injured in the third vehicle.
It is not worth running from the police. Better to take your chances in court than multiply your risk of injury and death. We hope that the families of the people harmed in the first hit vehicle get the compensation they need to recover from this accident.
