EMS World reported on a tragic ambulance accident in the suburban Atlanta region of Clayton County last Friday night that injured five people when an ambulance belonging to Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services Department overturned.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night along Upper Riverdale Road near its intersection with Interstate 75, according to spokespeople from the Clayton County Police Department. It was stated that the ambulance exited Interstate 75 headed south onto Upper Riverdale Road when another driver failed to yield and struck the vehicle from the rear, causing it to overturn.
Everyone involved sustained injuries of one form or another, and three Forest Park Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) as well as the patient aboard the ambulance were treated at local hospitals for their injuries. The driver of the car that hit them was also taken to a hospital, with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.
Two of the EMTs were released after being treated for minor injuries, while the third remained hospitalized at Atlanta Medical Center.
