Sometimes an accident can set off a chain-reaction and involve multiple vehicles. When this happens, there are often more people with injuries than in an accident involving just one or two vehicles. When the accident involves five vehicles, the results can be catastrophic.
One man lost his life and several other people were injured in a five-car accident over the July 4th weekend.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Wesley Chapel and South Hairston Roads in unincorporated Decatur.
The driver of the vehicle who crossed over the median, colliding with another vehicle and initiating the accident was identified as 23-year-old Jamon Freeman. Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene and his female passenger suffered critical injuries.
Freeman initially sideswiped a silver Hyundai Sonata and then collided with a Cadillac CTS, a U.S. Postal Service Truck, and finally, a Honda Odyssey.
Two children in the Cadillac and one child from the Hyundai were taken to Egleston where they received treatment for their injuries and were released. The driver of the Postal truck and the occupants of the Honda were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
It was not reported what, if any, factors contributed to the accident.
