A group of Atlanta Firefighters were reprimanded after an investigation on a shooting victim was done. The shooting happened in a packaging store on Moreland Avenue last December, and was captured on video.
In the video, the firefighters are shown peeking over at the injured clerk, Martez McKibben. By looking, they conclude that the victim had passed. However, they failed to check McKibben for other signs of life, such as the pulse, which is procedure.
Lt. Dennis Smith has received a two-day suspension, for which pay will not be given. Firefighters Charlamus Dennis and Katrina Sims were delivered letters of reprimand.
The fire departments input included the statement, “[They] did not directly contribute to the death of the patient, but does not negate the fact that they failed to fully assess the patient.”
