Society would be so much safer if drunk driving could be eliminated. Sadly, too many people still drink and drive and get into deadly accidents. Another one just happened on Buford Drive according to the AJC.
A Lawrenceville man now faces at least 10 charges according to Gwinnett County Jail Records. Among the charges are DUI and first-degree homicide. The reason? The man lost control of his BMW on July 14th and crossed the median.
The allegedly drunk driver sideswiped one car, then crashed into another. A fourth car crashed into the pile. The crash causer’s car burst into flames, which damaged another vehicle. The driver was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries, along with two other drivers.
However, due to the pile up and the flames, another of the drivers was trapped inside the wreckage and burned 60% of her body. A week later, she was declared brain dead. Two days later, she finally passed away due to the injuries. Among the survivors is a 2-year-old daughter.
The investigation is continuing due to a large number of other charges in the case, including questions of marijuana use during the crash. Needless to say, the responsible driver has forever altered their life and has left one young child without a mother.
