11 Alive reports that a tractor-trailer driver is dead and another driver injured after a major accident on I-75 in Bartow County on the north side of metro Atlanta.
Georgia State Patrol spokespeople stated that the accident involved two vehicles and occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon near the I-75 interchange with Highway 411 in the outer suburbs of Atlanta. A tractor-trailer was headed south on Interstate 75 in the right lane when a Jeep Cherokee attempted to merge onto the highway. The driver of the Cherokee apparently lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the tractor-trailer, causing that driver to lose control and strike the railing of a highway bridge. This caused a fuel tank on the tractor-trailer to catch fire as both vehicles came to a halt.
The tractor-trailer driver, sadly, succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, Georgia State Patrol officers have not yet released the condition of the Jeep driver. The accident is still under investigation by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
