Accident fatalities are always tragic. Those that occur during the holiday season seem even more so at times. This can be especially true when there seems to be no explanation for the accident.
In Social Circle, Georgia, over the weekend, an Atlanta man lost his life when the vehicle he was riding in collided with an 18-wheeler.
According to the report issued by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the accident occurred Friday afternoon. The vehicles involved in the incident were a Nissan Xterra and a Freightliner tractor trailer.
Initial investigation indicates that the Nissan Xterra veered off the roadway for an unknown reason, then re-entered the roadway and crossed over the center line. The Freightliner then impacted the vehicle on the right front of the Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan, whose name has not been released, was injured severely enough to require airlifting to Atlanta Medical Center.
His passenger, Emmanuel DeWayne Williams, 50, of Atlanta, Georgia, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, whose name was also not released, was treated for his injuries at the scene. His injuries were minor and he was released at the scene.
Charges may still be brought against the driver of the Xterra, pending the completion of a GSP Collision Reconstruction.
