WSB-TV reported this week on the tragic death of a Rockmart teenager in a boating accident, just weeks before she would have started her freshman year at the high school where her father serves as head softball coach.
Rockmart High School and Rockmart Middle School announced Sunday that a young lady, whose father served as softball coach at Rockmart High and boys basketball coach at Rockmart Middle, passed away Saturday. While details of the accident have not been fully released, reports indicate she was riding on a tube in the Winston County area of Smith Lake at the time of the accident.
The school’s statement on her loss noted that she was a standout student both athletically and academically and that her parents have both taught in the Rockmart school system for several years. Friends and family reportedly held a vigil for her Sunday night.
