Many factors can be involved in the reasons behind an auto accident. Speed, road conditions, weather, and distracted driving can all be factors that go into causing an accident. When accidents happen, often the families of victims involved want answers. They also want someone to have to pay for the accident.
The family of a victim of a fatal accident is protesting after a Georgia grand jury failed to indict a former state trooper who crashed into a car carrying four teenagers.
Dashcam footage recorded the crash, which occurred on September 26. The Carroll County grand jury decided not to bring any charges against the man responsible for the accident. That man is former state trooper Anthony (A.J.) Scott.
Scott had been traveling at 91 mph just seconds before crashing into a car driven by 18-year-old Dillon Wall. Also in the car were Wall’s friends, Isabella Chinchilla, 16; Kylie Lindsey, 17; and Benjamin Franklin. Wall and Franklin both suffered serious injuries. Wall suffered a brain injury, paralysis on one side of his face, broken teeth, and loss of hearing. Chinchilla and Lindsey both died as a result of the accident.
Scott was fired from his job as a state trooper in October. At the time of the accident, he had not been involved in a chase nor was he headed to the scene of an emergency. At the time of the accident, the roadway was wet and it was dark.
Scott does express remorse for the accident. “I do feel sorry every day. I’m sorry I was on that road,” Scott said. “There’s no words to describe how sorry I feel. I hope they find some kind of comfort in the future. And, if I can ever be of service to any of them, I’m here and I’ll do whatever they need.”
While there will be no criminal charges filed, Scott’s attorney does expect a civil lawsuit to be filed. That has not happened as of yet.
