Onglyza and related drug Januvia are dangerous. Increasing evidence suggests that the drugs cause heart problems and pancreatic cancer. The drug company behind Januvia is fighting hard to deny the cancer risk. A federal judge in California threw out more than 744 failure-to-warn cases, and now Merck is going after the estates of the victims to recover legal costs! But the estates are fighting back and the case is on appeal.
The FDA has been investigating the claims for three years, but there has been no conclusive link found yet. But that may change soon. Last month, a new analysis of FDA “adverse event” reports found pancreatic cancer ten times more often in Januvia users than would be expected. The same results were found in Onglyza and Tradjenta, related drugs in the same class. An earlier study by the Insitute for Safe Medicine said the odds increased by 20 times back in 2013!
However, pancreatic cancer is a very rare form of cancer. That’s why there is still so much uncertainty. There could be other factors causing it, but as more people get studied the more the evidence will build. We hope that the evidence does show an increase and that those cases can get the justice they deserve.
If you get pancreatic cancer, the odds are that you will die quite soon. Only 4% of those with the disease live beyond five years. If you believe the cause was due to taking Onglyza, Januvia, or another DPP-4 inhibitor, we urge you to contact John Foy & Associates right away so you can get the compensation you deserve.
