Tragically, accidents that cause injury and death are all too common. Such accidents can affect an entire community when they occur. Though there are sometimes no explanations for why an accident occurred, sometimes there is a very visible reason.
A 9-year-old boy involved in a DUI accident has succumbed to his injuries. Two other boys who were also struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs are fighting for their lives.
The accident occurred Friday evening at about 7 pm. The boys had been riding their bikes and were standing on a sidewalk when a car jumped the curb and struck them.
Police report that Ryan Lisabeth, 28, was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident. He was traveling on Joseph E. Boone Blvd in Atlanta. Lisabeth crossed the center lane and collided with a truck, then careened and jumped the curb, striking the three boys.
One of the boys lives in the apartment complex right in front of where the accident occurred.
Police allege that Lisabeth was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. There was no report of what drugs he had taken.
An examination of prior arrest records indicates that Lisabeth had been arrested for heroin possession twice. Once in 2011 and again in 2013. Both arrests took place in Fulton County.
