When an auto accident occurs, law dictates that the police be contacted and information be exchanged between the owners of the vehicles. Sometimes, that is not possible, as is the case in an accident involving a parked car. In some scenarios, the person who caused the accident leaves the scene.
In Athens, Georgia, a man was arrested after allegedly being involved in an accident and driving away. Mateos Rodrigues Silva was charged with fleeing an accident on Atlanta Highway in front of Georgia Square Mall.
An unnamed woman from Madison County was traveling along Atlanta Highway when a pickup truck that had been traveling in the opposite direction turned into the path of her SUV. The two vehicles collided, but Silva continued on his way. He proceeded towards the mall, where he parked and went inside.
The truck’s owner came to the scene and informed police he had loaned Silva the truck. Silva was to pick up lunch for his co-workers and return to the owner. Police said that the owner of the vehicle called Silva from his phone. Silva emerged from the mall, where he told police that he had not been driving the vehicle. He claimed to have only been a passenger.
Despite his claims, police arrested Silva. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, improper driving, and driving without a license.
