There are currently 89.7 million dogs being held by 60.2 million households in the United States. Dog bites send nearly 316,200 victims to hospital emergency rooms each year. This equates to about 898 per day. In 2015, dog bites necessitated more than 28,000 reconstructive surgery procedures. Los Angeles was the worst for mail carriers when it came to dog bites. WSB TV reports on the victims of two dogs who attacked neighbors in Atlanta.
One witness described one of the victims as having been injured from “head to toe.”
On Monday afternoon, two dogs escaped from their yard and were found in the yard of a neighbor. That neighbor, who has children went outside to try and drive the dogs off.
The dogs ended up attacking the man. He ended up with 29 stitches in total holding his wounds together.
Another woman was driving down Five Forks Trickum road when she saw the dogs attacking an elderly man. She immediately pulled over to help get the dogs off of him.
The commotion the dogs caused resulted in a car wreck that witnesses say was directly related to the dog attacks.
The dogs were taken by Gwinnett County Animal Patrol. Although they tested negative for rabies, they were still euthanized.
The elderly man who was attacked is still in the hospital with serious wounds.
