Using the powers of the civil court system isn’t the only way people try to get the much-needed compensation they require for paying medical bills and recovering lost wages. Online fundraising has taken off as a way of supplementing these costs. A great example of giving this holiday season can be seen in today’s case.
This past Monday, a Haralson County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol helping out the town of Mt. Zion. A horse had escaped their corral and was struck by the deputy. Horses are massive creatures and the collision caused significant damage to both the officer’s cruiser and the officer. The officer will require extensive hip and face surgery to repair the many broken bones. He’s now awaiting treatment at Grady Memorial Hospital.
To help cover the costs of the surgeries, the officer’s family has set up an online fundraising page. The officer is the sole breadwinner for his wife and four children and never takes a day off, according to the officer’s wife.
We hope that in addition to fundraising efforts that the officer has access to an excellent insurance policy and some holiday back pay during recovery. The officer has served 10 years on the force and deserves to be well-recompensed for his service.
