The holidays always bring with them more people on the roadways. This usually translates into more accidents, and sadly, more fatalities. When these things happen, it can affect an entire community of family and friends.
The Myers family from East Cobb County were headed home from Florida when their SUV crashed and then caught fire. Friends and family are remembering them this month.
The family, consisting of Rob, Pamela, and Michael Myers, and uncle Todd Burch, were heading back to their East Cobb County home. The driver lost control of their Ford Bronco on Interstate 10 just outside Jacksonville, Florida. The vehicle then hit a tree and burst into flames.
No one in the vehicle was wearing seatbelts and subsequently, were thrown from the car. Three of the four passengers died at the scene. The father, Rob Myers, was rushed to a nearby trauma center in critical condition.
Family and friends are in shock. Jason Hancock, whose 15-year old friend Michael Myers was killed in the crash, remembered his friend fondly. “He was one of the nicest friends I had and always put a smile on everyone’s face. I am going to miss him at the bus stop, on the bus, and seeing him everyday at lunch.”
The Myers’ neighbor, Gifty Arthur, described the Myers as wonderful neighbors. She carpooled with Michael Myers and her son to football practice at nearby Pope High School, where both boys played on the freshman team. She remembered Myers as a very polite young man.
