County police and transportation workers were kept busy in McDonough Tuesday morning after a cement truck overturned.
A cement truck overturned following an accident at the intersection of Ga Highway 81 and North Bethany Road in McDonough.
Henry County Police reported that the cement truck collided with a pickup truck at approximately 8:50 a.m. Officers at the scene of the accident concluded that the cement truck ran a traffic light.
The driver of the cement truck was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. His injuries were also non-life-threatening.
The driver of the cement truck is expected to be charged with failure to obey a traffic device. The Motor Carrier Compliance Division, which is associated with the state Department of Public Safety, will conduct its own investigation. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Police estimate that approximately 9 yards of cement spilled onto the roadway. Police blocked off the intersection while the wreckage was cleared and the spill was cleaned.
The intersection was cleared by early afternoon.
