Accidents occur without rhyme nor reason at times. They can happen when least expected and can cause injury and destruction of property. Even experienced drivers can have a momentary lapse of concentration and cause an accident.
Two people were injured in a workplace accident Tuesday at a car wash in downtown LaGrange, Georgia.
Two employees of the LaGrange Car Wash, which is located at 307 Vernon Street were injured in the accident. The incident occurred when a pickup truck driven by one employee accelerated and struck another car waiting in line.
One of the injured employees was able to walk into the ambulance under their own power. The second employee required being loaded into the ambulance by stretcher. Both men were taken by the same ambulance to West Georgia Medical Center. Their identities were not reported, but both men were conscious at the time they were transported.
The owner of the pickup truck, Marilyn Williams, states that she witnessed the accident. According to her statement, she saw the truck pull up under the awning in front of the car wash. The truck then accelerated and struck the Honda Accord in line in front of the truck.
Williams also stated that the driver of the truck informed her that the brakes on the truck had failed. Senior Office Wesley Engle, who was investigating the accident stated that he inspected the truck’s brakes twice. They were operational.
No citations were issued for the accident owing to the fact that it occurred on private property.
Greg Pitts, the owner of the car wash, stated that the employee who required the stretcher had been working for him for “some years.” He also added that he had never had a similar accident in the time he had owned the car wash.
