Auto accidents can cause loss of life and devastating injury that can impact all those involved. However, there are times when an auto accident takes on an even sadder and more tragic tone. When the car accident is self-inflicted, it can lead to questions that may remain unanswered.
A car accident in Atlanta Georgia that occurred recently has been sadly labeled a suicide. The accident occurred on Sunday, January 24th.
Meteorologist Nicholas Wiltgen for the Weather Channel crashed his car through a parking garage wall and into an adjacent hotel in midtown Atlanta. The 39-year old man was pronounced dead shortly after the accident at Atlanta’s Colony Square Mall.
Atlanta Police Deparment spokesperson Kim Jones stated that after crashing through the parking garage wall, Wilgen’s car traveled about 20 feet where it crashed into the storage room of the W Atlanta-Midtown Hotel. A worker inside the storage room was injured, but the injuries were non-life-threatening. The worker was transported to the hospital.
The Weather Channel’s company president spoke of Wiltgen. He stated that Wiltgen had been a treasured member of the Weather Channel family for the past 15 years. He was a senior meteorologist and an integral member of the company’s content team.
“Millions read his work every week and were better for it. He was a dedicated, passionate member of our family and we will miss him deeply. Our heartfelt sympathy is with his family and his friends.”
