Sheriff deputies in Gordon County, Georgia responded to an emergency call involving an ATV accident on Saturday, January 23rd. According to reports from law enforcement, the deputies responded the call at about 4:30 pm. The accident occurred on North Tate Bend Road near Calhoun, Georgia. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a badlly injured 10-year-old boy. The statement also indicated that two adults suffered injuries as well.
The boy was transported to Gordon Hospital where a helicopter later took him to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Sadly, the boy succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
Luke Minton was an honor student at Calhoun Elementary School. The superintendant of the school system released a statement promising additional counselors on hand for staff and students the Monday following the accident.
Family friends set up a GoFundMe account to help the Minton family with expenses related to lost time from work, medical bills, and funeral expenses. The donation site raised $21,000 in just one day.
