Ga. 316 is known to be one of the most dangerous roads in the state. Another crash has happened there, this time a fatality, according to the AJC.
At the intersection of 361 and Ga. 81, three cars slowed down to stop at a red light. A box truck following the pack was following too closely and slammed into the back of them. All four vehicles were tangled in the wreck. A 55-year-old man from Loganville died. No one else was injured.
A driver of a box truck should know better than to follow too closely. Larger vehicles require more time to stop and air brakes don’t make you stop on a dime. Depending on the size of the truck, it may not have even had air brakes. Heavier vehicles also cause more damage due to their greater mass.
This is why there are laws about leaving semis enough room to pass on the road. If a semi hits you because you passed too closely in front of it, you’re taking your life into your hands. The drivers of professional vehicles should have known better.
We hope that the family of the slain man is able to get compensation for the wrongful death. It remains to be seen if the driver of the box truck is charged.
