If General Lee’s Groundhog Day prediction is correct, Georgia is in for six more weeks of winter. Winter weather has already wreaked havoc across Georgia in three separate winter weather events, leading to many accidents due to icy roadways. Some of these accidents have been sadly fatal. 41 NBC reports on a deadly crash caused by ice in Bibb County last month.
A fatal accident claimed the lives of two men in Macon on January 17th. This was just one of several accidents blamed on the snowy weather and the icy conditions along Georgia interstates I-16, I-475 and I-75.
Bibb County Coroner believes that both the weather and speed were contributing factors in the accidents.
63-year-old Tuan Nguyen and 48-year-old Thahn Nguyen were driving on I-75 to work when they hit a patch of ice and slid into a guardrail. The driver exited the vehicle to possible assess the damage.
A silver Ford Mustang approached the accident and attempted to move over. Unfortunately, the driver hit a patch of ice caused the car to spin out of control. The driver hit both Nguyen men and killed them instantly.
The driver of the Mustang was not injured in the accident.
Lt. Scott Davis of the Bibb County Sheriff’s office said that the department responded to many accidents on that snowy day. This was the worst one.
