A community can rally behind a person or a family in need during bad times. Atlanta is such a community as it rallied behind the family of the owner of a popular food truck. Atlantans offered support and consolation to a family who lost a husband and a father in a tragic accident.
Over Memorial Day weekend in Fairburn, the owner of a popular Atlanta food truck lost his life while racing his motorcycle.
Clovis “Troy” Anglin was the owner of the popular One Love Jerk Grill. Customers described the food truck on Yelp as having the best jerk chicken they have ever had.
Upon learning of Anglin’s death, hundreds of customers commented on the Atlanta Food Truck Park & Market Facebook page. They wanted to show their support and, perhaps, share their grief at the loss of a chef who had been with the Food Truck Park and Market from the start.
Originally from Jamaica, Troy came to the United States about 17 years ago and found work in Seattle as a chef. Here, he met his wife Mia and they moved to Atlanta about six years ago. Anglin opened One Love Jerk Grill in 2011.
Though the food truck was the only source of income for the family, Clovis never wrote any of the recipes down. He crafted them all from memory and was the only one who knew them.
Anglin had been racing two other motorcycles and a car on Sunday around 2:30 a.m. The motorcyclists and a car passed a police officer, who flashed his lights to get them to slow down. According to police reports, the vehicles were traveling down Highway92 at about 75 m.p.h. The speed limit in that section of the road is 35 m.p.h.
Three minutes after flashing his lights, the officer got the call about an accident up ahead.
Anglin left the roadway and struck a ditch. The motorcycle re-entered the roadway on highway 138, where Anglin was ejected. He was found 15 feet away from his bike. He had received a head wound that was bleeding heavily.
Anglin was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for his injuries, where he later died.
No charges in the accident have been filed and the Georgia State Patrol is still investigating.
