It would stand to reason that some cities are more prone to auto accidents than others. Population, weather conditions, and other factors can be taken into consideration when ranking the cities by the number of auto accidents. Every year, the insurance company Allstate ranks “Americas Best Drivers” by comparing the 200 most populous cities. This year, Atlanta fell near the bottom.
The report, titled “Americas Best Drivers Report” takes into account the average number of years between collisions and the average likelihood of a collision compared to the national average.
Atlanta came in at number 184. This puts the fair city in the top 0.1 percent of accident-prone cities, sandwiching it between Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Seattle, Washington.
If you live in Atlanta, you are 40% more likely to get involved in an accident compared to the national average. Atlantans also went an average of 7.1 years between accidents.
If population density were taken into consideration, Atlanta’s rank would fall to 191. However, if weather conditions such as precipitation were taken into account, the city’s rank would rise to 182.
Compared to last year’s study, Atlanta fell five spots from 179 the year before.
