11 Alive reports on a fatal accident Monday evening that claimed a child’s life on the busy downtown connector through midtown Atlanta.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the single-vehicle accident happened on I-85 near the 75/85 split at the north end of the connector, in the 17th Street area. The first trooper to arrive on-scene found a Ford Ranger overturned in the traffic lanes, and a female child had been ejected from the vehicle. The Georgia State Patrol trooper immediately began performing emergency first aid, until an ambulance arrived to transport her to Grady Memorial Hospital, but she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries once at the hospital.
The Ranger appears to have been the only vehicle involved in the incident, which blocked all lanes of I-85 northbound including the HOV lane, as well as one lane of the I-75 ramp southbound to I-85 north. Atlanta Police Department and GSP are both investigating the accident, but further details have not been released and the identity of the deceased child is unknown.
