Depending on where you live, you might be at higher risk for an automobile accident or automobile theft. This can cause a higher rate of automobile insurance. If you live in Atlanta, you live in the 7th most dangerous city for U.S. Drivers.
According to the personal finance website NerdWallet.com, Atlanta is the seventh most dangerous city in the United States for drivers.
To create its listing of safest and most dangerous cities, NerdWallet used metrics such as rate of fatal crashes, the likelihood of an accident relative to other cities, the number of years between accidents, the risk of auto larceny, and risk of vehicle theft.
How did Atlanta fare in these metrics? It doesn’t look good.
Atlanta drivers have an accident roughly every seven years. For every 100,000 residents, there is an average of 10.7 fatal accidents. When it comes to accidents, Atlanta ranks 43.8 percent higher than the national average. The city ranked “least safe” when it comes to auto larceny and risk of vehicle theft.
Atlantans can also expect to pay more for car insurance. On average, drivers in Atlanta paid $321 more annually in car insurance than those from Cary, N.C., which the NetWallet study ranked as the #1 safest city for drivers.
The study seems to indicate that larger cities are more dangerous. The highest risk belongs to large cities in the south and on the east coast.
