Patch reported recently that a teenager was killed and another one hurt in a high-speed police chase of a stolen vehicle in the Atlanta area on Thursday, November 19.
According to state troopers with the Georgia State Patrol, the incident began on the 400 block of Whitehall Street in downtown Atlanta around 6:40 p.m., when they were called to assist the Atlanta Police Department in pursuing the driver of a stolen Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. After troopers arrived in the area, the truck escaped the surface streets onto Interstate 20 west, and a state trooper attempted to stop the truck but failed. State Police continued pursuit and exercised a specialized maneuver designed to get the truck to turn sideways; this caused the vehicle to strike the guardrail and flip.
The driver, an Atlanta boy 17 years of age, was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, a boy 16 years of age, was injured and taken into custody. The incident remains under investigation.
