11 Alive News reported recently that a hit-and-run traffic accident Sunday morning left an Atlanta Police officer hospitalized after being struck by a motor vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 20.
According to spokespeople from the Atlanta Police Department, an Atlanta Police officer was working a traffic accident on the shoulder of I-20 Sunday morning around 3:06 a.m. near the Flat Shoals Road exit. His marked police cruiser had its emergency lights on and he was wearing a neon traffic safety vest when both he and his patrol car were struck by a 25-year-old Atlanta man driving a red Chevy Tahoe SUV.
The driver did not stop but was later apprehended by DeKalb County Police officers in the area of Clifton and Rockdale avenues. Atlanta Police officers took custody from DeKalb and brought the suspect to Grady Detention Center, where he was charged with reckless driving, hit and run, DUI less safe, failure to report an accident resulting in injury, expired registration, failure to maintain lane, and striking a fixed object.
