The prescription drug Xarelto was approved by the FDA in 2011 to treat patients who are at risk for stroke and pulmonary embolism, among other conditions. Xarelto is a prescription blood thinner that has since been linked to severe side effects and injury. Many class action lawsuits have been filed, in differing countries, against Bayer, the manufacturer of Xarelto.
A Texas man has joined in these lawsuits, alleging that several pharmaceutical companies fraudulently represented Xarelto to patients and the medical community.
Michael Godfrey filed a complaint on April 5, 2016, in the U.S. District for the Eastern District of Louisiana against several companies. Included in the lawsuit are Jansen Research & Development, LLC., Jansen Pharmaceuticals, Johnson & Johnson Co., Bayer AG, and Bayer Corp., among others.
Godfrey’s complaint states that he has suffered from economic and non-economic injury as a result of taking the prescription medication Xarelto. He alleges that he has suffered from serious and dangerous side-effects including life-threatening bleeding and other side effects. He also alleges he suffered injuries which are personal, severe, and permanent in nature.
The lawsuit is holding the defendants responsible because they manufactured, marketed, distributed, and advertised the drug Xarelto. The lawsuit also alleges that the defendant companies failed to adequately study and test the safety of the drug.
The plaintiff is seeking a trial by jury and compensation in an amount that is greater than the jurisdictional amount. The plaintiff is also seeking prejudgment and post-judgment interest as well as compensation for reasonable attorneys fees.
