Drivers of commercial vehicles have to take additional training to drive their vehicles safely, but accidents still happen. One of the major problems with commercial vehicle crashes is that commercial vehicles are heavy. What might be a light bump from behind from a normal vehicle could turn much worse.
A tanker truck did just that on I-16 in Treutlen County. A Toyota Scion was driving down the road just after 3 AM with three men inside. A tanker truck came up behind them and hit them from behind. The crash caused a loss of control of both vehicles and they crossed the median into the opposing lanes. All three people in the Scion were killed. The driver of the tanker was taken to the hospital.
This is the third crash on I-16 to claim multiple lives in the last two months. Commercial drivers are required to carry a big insurance policy in case accidents like these happen, but what if the money they offer isn’t enough to cover your medical expenses?
