When driving, a driver needs to be constantly aware of their surroundings. They need to be focused on the road, attentive to the curves and hills. A driver under the influence of alcohol inevitably misses the nuances of road conditions and that leads to injuries and fatalities.
This was entirely too evident for a man early yesterday morning, according to the AJC. He was traveling in his Chevy Malibu and suddenly veered off the road in a curve. The vehicle flipped, landing on the roof in a ditch on the side of the road.
The driver and his two passengers were in various states of injury, all of them taken to the local hospital to recover. He has been arrested and charged with failure to maintain a lane, driving under the influence, and driving too fast for road conditions, and is being held on bond.
Accidents can happen any time of the day or night, but fewer accidents happen when the driver is sober and alert. Never get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking. Be smart and use a designated driver.
