There are many factors that can contribute to an accident. Distracted driving, inexperience, road conditions, are just a few things that can cause an accident to happen. Speed and alcohol can also be contributing factors to the causes of accidents.
On Wednesday, February 10th, Lawrenceville Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at McKendree Church Road and McKendree Park Lane. The accident occurred before 10 pm at night. The accident left one person dead and several others seriously injured.
Authorities piecing together the accident say that Michael Schick, 26, was driving his Honda Accord at high speeds. He then swerved into the southbound lanes of McKendree Church Road, where it struck the Toyota Camry being driven by 26-year-old Shana Fischer-Williams.
The Honda struck the Toyota almost directly head on. The impact killed a 20-year old passenger in Fischer-Williams’ car. All of the adult passengers were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. A 1-year old passenger, also in Fischer-Williams car was taken to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
The child was listed in serious condition. However, authorities stated that everyone taken to the hospital is expected to survive.
No charges have been filed against any involved in the accident as of yet. However, it is suspected that alcohol and speed may have been factors.
