All accidents have a cause, but some accidents are so freakish that even witnesses can’t explain what happened. A tragic story out of Gwinnett County shows one example of this.
A young college student and her friend decided to take a trip out to a gun range in Anderson, South Carolina. For reasons unknown, the student was struck in the head by a bullet from another person’s gun. The friend was standing next to her when it happened. Despite being right there, she nor anyone else at the gun range knows how a bullet managed to strike the young lady.
Three days later, she was taken off life support. The coroner said her death was an accident.
Her family is trying to make the best of it. The woman’s organs have been offered for donation and friends of the family are setting up a radiology scholarship in her name. A celebration of life has been planned.
Police are still investigating the incident. Was someone at the range shooting carelessly, or was one of the guns or the range damaged and caused a bullet to bounce? Or was it truly a freak accident? People will want answers. We hope that the police do find clues so the family can know if the gun range was at fault for this woman’s death.
