What should have been a wonderful, fun night of trick-or-treating for a young family turned into a real-life nightmare. On Thursday night, Halloween, a little 5-year-old girl was struck by a car while trick-or-treating on Pepperdine Court near Decatur.
“The child was seriously injured here at the scene and was transported to Egleston for further treatment and evaluation. Unfortunately she has died as a result of those injuries that she sustained in this accident,” said Detective Lorentz Armstrong with DeKalb County Police Department.
The little girl, her parents, and some friends were all out Thursday night trick-or-treating. She was dressed up as a princess. According to the initial investigation it appears that the little girl was standing on the side of the road behind her mother’s car. All of a sudden the little girl decides to run across the street at the same time as a mini-van was turning left onto that street.
According to officers at the scene, they do not believe speed was a factor in this accident. At this point investigators also said there were no charges filed against the driver.
“The way the investigation is right now, speed as well as alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this particular accident.
