Commuting in the metro Atlanta area can be trying. Traffic is almost always horrible, leading to back-ups, accidents, and lines of vehicles sitting on the interstate. Just be happy you weren’t stuck in the 29-car-pileup on Interstate 75. Especially since it was on a Sunday, a day when traffic should be minimal.
On Sunday afternoon, a vehicle hydroplaned in the northbound lanes during a heavy rainstorm just north of the exit for Red Top Mountain Road. Other cars following that one were unable to stop in time. This led to a domino-effect accident eventually involving 29 vehicles. The pile-up shut down the interstate at 5 p.m. Motorists were trapped on the interstate during the storm for hours.
Yet, miraculously, what could have been tragic had a silver lining. No one suffered any serious injuries in the accident. Fourteen people were taken to the hospital and one person suffered a back injury. All victims were released from the hospital by Monday morning.
