Each day, hundreds of people use the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA). While the majority of these trips go without incident, sometimes MARTA buses are involved in serious accidents. When the fault lies with the driver or operator of a MARTA vehicle, those who are injured can usually get compensation for their injuries. There are many ways that a MARTA bus can be involved in an accident due to negligence. These include failing to take weather into consideration, speeding, improper bus maintenance, distracted driving, driver training that is inadequate, and defective bus equipment. Sometimes, the fault lies with another driver.
WSBTV reports that 14 people were injured in a wreck involving a MARTA bus and two cars in southwest Atlanta.
The accident occurred on Friday night at about 9:15 p.m. At the intersection of Delowe Drive and Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, two vehicles got into an accident. One of those cars then hit a MARTA bus.
In one of the cars, two people suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. On the bus, 12 passengers who complained of neck and back pain were treated at the scene by City of Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department paramedics.
This wasn’t the only weekend crash that involved MARTA buses. The day before, a man was killed when his pickup truck crossed the center lane on Roosevelt Highway in Palmetto and collided with the bus.
There were no passengers on the bus during that accident.
